Thymosin Alpha 1
Thymosin alpha 1 (Thymo1) is a naturally occurring protein in the body that is known for its immune-boosting properties. It has been shown to stimulate the body’s natural defence mechanisms, improve overall immune function, and help combat chronic infections and illness.

In addition to its immune-boosting abilities, thymosin alpha 1 has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, reducing symptoms of fatigue and inflammation in individuals with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Thymo1 has also been found to have a synergistic effect when used in combination with other medications, including chemotherapy, improving the effectiveness of cancer treatments and enhancing antitumor responses.

Several studies have indicated that thymosin alpha 1 may reduce mortality in patients with sepsis. However, most of these trials have been retrospective and limited in size. Therefore, a multicentre, randomised, double blinded, placebo controlled clinical trial was conducted to determine whether thymosin alpha 1 can decrease 28 day all cause mortality in patients with sepsis.

Patients with severe COVID-19 infection were given daily thymo1 injections to increase their thymic function and immune system response. The results of this study showed that thymosin alpha 1 increased the number of lymphocytes in the blood, preventing a potentially fatal loss of white blood cells known as leukopenia. In addition, thymo1 also decreased the duration of infection in those with a mild or moderate severity of the disease, and aided recovery of normal thymic function in elderly patients, whose thymic functions had been depleted due to age-related thymic atrophy during the pandemic.

A synthetic (human-made) version of thymosin alpha 1, called thymalfasin (Zadaxin), is currently available in more than 35 countries to treat hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and is being investigated as a potential treatment for certain types of cancer. While thymalfasin is not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat any condition, there is hope that thymosin alpha 1 might be able to offer similar benefits and be the basis of an effective treatment for COVID-19.

Thymosin alpha 1 works by stimulating the production of new lymphocytes in the bone marrow and increasing the amount of thymic hormones produced by the thymus. These changes stimulate the rest of the immune system to increase its vigilance and ability to respond to pathogens and other threats.

Thymosin alpha 1 can be purchased from our clinic in injection form and injected under the skin. We recommend regular blood tests are carried out to evaluate response and monitor side effects. It is usually recommended to start a course of thymosin injections twice a week, although the dose can vary depending on the condition being treated. This therapy is generally very well tolerated, but it is important to watch for any signs of redness or swelling at the injection site.
